Liverpool was quite a centre of the portable building industry. Morton’s of Liverpool, a very ambitious concern which unusually employed an architect, began life as a producer of fencing. This is the cover of their 1869 fencing catalogue, showing one of their early works and perhaps giving a taste of how they wanted to present themselves. Many portable buildings were sold to individual consumers through lavish catalogues.
